Hear Your Horse: With Kristi Newman
Welcome to Hear Your Horse with Kristi Newman.
What if the partnership you have always wanted with your horse is closer than you think? What if the resistance, the inconsistency, the feeling that something is just not quite clicking — is actually your horse trying to tell you something?
This podcast is for riders who are ready to listen.
Each episode pulls from four places that matter: horse wisdom, training your horse, training yourself as a rider, and the personal development that happens when you stop ignoring what the horse is already showing you. Because horses do not lie. They do not perform. They do not negotiate. And if you have been around them long enough, you already know — they have a way of reflecting back exactly what you need to see.
Some episodes will change how you ride. Some will change how you think. Some will do both at the same time and you will not see it coming.
The RITE System runs through all of it — a training approach that layers on top of whatever method you already use and adds the one thing most riders are missing. A clear, precise way to tell your horse they got it right. When the communication is clear, everything changes. The resistance softens. The partnership deepens. The rides you always imagined become the rides you actually have.
You are in the right place.
And if you want to go deeper — come find us inside the "Hear Your Horse" community on Skool. It is a space built for riders who are done white-knuckling it alone. Ask your questions, share your wins, and show up live every Monday for a community call with Q&A. Real conversation. Real horses. Real people who get it.
Because the horse has always been trying to reach you. We are just here to help you hear them.

Raw From the Ring: Sandra's Ride on Lazura
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
We caught Sandra right after her lesson — still in the ring, Lazura by her side — and asked her to tell us what just happened out there.
No filter. No time to overthink it. Just a rider in the middle of a moment, sharing what it actually feels like when something clicks between you and your horse.
If you've ever had one of those rides where you got off and thought something is different — this one's for you.
Hi, so we just finished up a lesson with Lazura and Sandra, and it is spring here at the farm, and we are now getting into sort of frozen mud season where it's muddy when the sun comes out, um, but then it freezes overnight and in the morning, so it's kind of stabby, you know, footing where the horses can't really walk a lot. So we're finding that the horses are pretty stiff when they come into the lessons because uh outside the footing is not amazing as we get through the spring season. So Lazura was working on uh loosening up her body and figuring things out, and then we were starting to prolong the um times that she goes between the rewards, and so she you could see she kept thinking, like, when is my treat happening? I'm still doing the things, but as you progress with the reward-integrated training um system, you do have to start prolonging between the rewards, although um Lazura doesn't necessarily agree with that. Um and so you could see her sort of thinking, like, I'm sure I'm doing the right thing, but you don't seem to be clicking and treating me, so I'm not sure what's happening, but they need to build up the strength once they understand the pattern of movement, and then they have to build up the cardio and the coordination. So um, how did that feel, Sandra? What is your feedback on the ride today?
SPEAKER_00I thought our ride today was amazing.
SPEAKER_01Yay!
SPEAKER_00We've been communicating very well. We felt very in sync. Um there were a couple of times where had I been riding all by myself, maybe I would have gone for the cancer because we were so in sync. So I really loved that she needed to be painted, I needed to be painted, and not automatically. So this idea of making her go for a longer to learn a new thing. To me, in my mind, it feels like her brain is expanding, my brain is expanding at the same time about the same thing. We're learning together, which is part of what I think makes the right system so fantastic.
SPEAKER_01It really clears up the communication, though, is what I feel like it does. It's like the horse really understands, okay, well, and their brain is engaged in the doing of the things, in the actual conversations versus um, you know, kind of checking out and going, oh gosh, this again. To me, it's um more interesting. And they have to, um, like I mean, like you just said too, they have to learn to carry things longer, right? Because once we create the pattern, then we strengthen the pattern. She's got the pattern, you've got the pattern way of going. And so now we have to strengthen that pattern a little bit more, and we do that progressively, obviously. Um okay, let me give you a treat because you're gonna do you need a little mint, and here she is having a little treat. That was so good, that was awesome today. Good girl.
